Hey again! It’s me, Angie. Thanks for visiting U Camgirl – allow me to introduce myself.
Before Webcam Modeling
I’m a 25 year old girl living in Eastern Canada. Before I became a webcam model, I was really frustrated with my job. Let’s see…
- long shifts that interfered with my personal life and left me too exhausted to effectively pursue my real passion (I’m a musician)
- working my ass off just to pay my rent and scrape by
- my job was really the center of my life, but I didn’t care about the job so I was really unfulfilled.
- Omg, and working for a bunch of idiots…lol
I dreamed of the day that I would only work for one.
When I first heard about webcam modeling jobs, I was pretty interested. I have to admit, though, I was a little skeptical because of all the ads that say you can make like $10,000 a week. That’s ludicrous! ha, anyway I read in a few places that the average for first time models is around 20-40 bucks an hour. That sounded more reasonable to me – I mean, it is adult modeling.
Enter Webcam Modeling
The idea of even doubling my income was too good to pass up.
So I started moonlighting with InternetModeling.com a couple hours a day on top of my regular job just to check it out. I should mention that my boyfriend was really supportive in all of this, and nowadays he’s proud to tell his friends that he’s dating an adult model, lol.
Evidently, my moonlighting experiment went fairly well. I waited a couple months to see how consistent my income could be (it fluctuated, but averaged out to “really good”). In July 2013 I finally quit my day job. OMG I can’t even tell you how relieved and empowered I felt!! It was fucking fantastic.
One thing I was a little scared of was what other people would think of me if they found out about my new job. I mean, there’s definitely a social stigma associated with the adult industry. I usually keep what I do to myself, but that’s just me. For real, if you met me in real life you would never in a million years imagine that I’m a webcam model. I’m totally shy and I guess I seem really innocent to most people. My close friends know, and of course my boyfriend, and that’s pretty much it.
They all surprised me by being totally cool with what I do!
For the past year (writing this July 2014) I have only had to work like 3 hours a day, and I have more than doubled what I was making before (not quite tripled, but I am astonishingly lazy, haha).
I take a day off (or a month) whenever the hell I feel like it. I work when I feel like it. I can wear what I want, do what I want, be who I want to be and pursue the things that actually matter to me during all my extra free time.
I am so grateful for all the freedom I’ve found through webcam modeling. I live a life free of work-related pressure, free of constraints in terms of my time and money. Of course there are other stressors and it’s not perfect (nothing is), but it’s damn better than what I had before. Before, I was a dreamer who dabbled in recording music; now, I’m in the middle of producing my first album. I also have the opportunity to share this with you.
What are you passionate about?
You are passionate merely by the fact that you are a human being, and you have a unique gift to offer the world. Do you have a dream that is sitting on the back burner waiting for you to have the time and the means to pursue it? I have always dreamed of helping people in some way, and that’s why I’m here.
I want to help you achieve your dreams.
At U Camgirl, I hope to shed a lot of light on the field of webcam modeling. I’m going to be sharing lots of ideas, tips and information that will hopefully be useful to you.

Recently I saw some ad for SextPanther and was wondering if you knew anything about it. I’ve tried to research but it seems they aren’t that well established as of yet. Any thoughts would be helpful. thanks!
Hi Airen! Based on this thread I would have to say this does smell a bit fishy. Basically they seem to be hoping to piggyback on the success of already established models, meaning the models drive their own traffic and then share the revenue with the company. That doesn’t seem quite right to me. A respectable website will do their part of the work for their share of the revenue, which includes driving the traffic, promoting their models, and offering support. Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by U Camgirl with your question! Cheers, Angie
Hello Angie…
You’ve got a really interesting website going on here. This is my first time hearing of webcam modelling. Another great way of making money online!
Hi Kelly! It really is a great alternative online career choice. I’m surprised at how many readers mention to me that they’ve never heard of this idea before, but I suppose it is a fairly new addition to the adult industry. It certainly is rising in popularity though, because – well – the Internet. lol. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! cheers.
Angie – I find your site to be seriously interesting, it’s truly a behind-the-scenes look at something that’s not really often made public (or at least not that I know of!).
Personally I would never even dream of being a camgirl – I’m waaayyy too shy, but I must say the lifestyle and benefits look amazing and I’m super jealous. Congrats on quitting your job, that must have been the best feeling in the world!
I’ve always wondered though, do you ever get worried about ending up in a session with someone you know in real life? I’m guessing that could be pretty awkward lol!
Hi Jolie! I’m shy in real life too – like social anxiety disorder shy. Webcam modeling is actually a major outlet for me personally, because I can be whoever I want on cam and I don’t have to live up to any expectations, not really. It’s a whole other world on there haha And thank you! Yeah, quitting my job is one of my favorite memories so far hehe.
As for running into people from real life, that is actually something that should not happen because of the Geo blocking feature that most cam sites offer. One thing to keep in mind though is that no blocking feature is foolproof because people can use a proxy to hide their location. My advice would be not to rely on Geo blocking and assume that there is a chance that someone you know could see you. If that is not a chance you can afford to take, then being a webcam model is probably not for you.
Thanks for commenting again Jolie! All the best.
I love your site. This may be a silly question but what do you tell people you do for a living? You said only those close to you know, how do you handle casual conversations with everyone else?
Hey Jade!
Thanks! I don’t believe in silly questions. Actually, yours is a good one. To most people, I work in affiliate marketing. If probed, I actually promote adult entertainment networks.
I hope that answers your question. Let me know if you’d like further clarification. I’ll definitely be talking more about this topic in Part 2 of Sex Work in Society.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you again soon!
Angie
What an interesting story. I can definitely see that shy personality shining through. I am looking forward to seeing your posts on how men can do this too!
Hey James!
Thanks for taking the time to read my story. Men can do this job just about the same way women can, with a couple amendments. I’ll have to do some extra research on that one lol. Take care.
UPDATE: Straight Male Webcam Modeling
Hey Angie,
This topic is very interesting, I’ve never really heard of it before. I can’t believe that you could make THAT much money in modeling. It’s amazing. The best part is that it opens up so much time for you to pursue your true passions. That’s what it’s all about! I look forward to your new content.
Hi Ashley!
Thanks for checking out U Camgirl! I love hearing when people have never even heard of webcam modeling before. Obviously it’s not for everyone and the social stigma is probably a major reason a lot of people don’t know much about it. It’s true that the earning potential is high, but that’s not to say it isn’t hard work getting there! You are totally right though, we gotta pursue our passions no matter what. If it means working a socially controversial job, I’m cool with that, lol.
Take care, and I hope to see you again soon!
Angie
I didn’t realize that you could make so much modeling part time.
I really enjoyed the way in which you told your story it kept me compelled to keep reading.
This is something I am sure a lot of ladies out there will be interested to read so I am going to take the liberty to share this to my social channels.
Great work,
JASON
Hey Jason,
Thanks a lot for taking the time to read my story! I really appreciate your sharing it as well.
The thing with webcam modeling is that you get out of it what you put into it, and with customers paying between $6-$9 per MINUTE (I know right?! lol) the commission has the potential to add up quickly. And I know it says U CamGIRL but guys can totally do this job too. Short story: gay for pay can really pay, haha.
Cheers,
Angie
